The Hamar Help & Support Centre

For people with cancer
and serious illness,
their families and those who care for them
The Hamar Help & Support
Centre opened at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital in 1991, following
a bequest from Dr Linnie Hamar, a South Shropshire GP, to
the
Lingen Davies Cancer Relief Fund.
The building was extended in 2005, funded by a legacy from Mr P G Neale, to provide extra counselling rooms and Fundraising Office for the Charity.
The Hamar Centre offers help and support for patients with cancer and other serious illnesses, and their relatives.
The staff are experienced professionals, and offer factual information, counselling and therapies.

The centre offers:
A wide range of factual information on cancer and other serious or chronic illnesses and their treatments
Informal support
Individual and family counselling
Supportive therapies, including help with relaxation and lifestyle, aromatherapy and touch therapy
Support groups meet in the function room, where many people find benefit from meeting others with similar problems.
Information files for reference on a wide range of topics, eg holiday insurance, support services etc.
Behind the centre is a garden which offers a quiet place for patients and relatives to relax.
